Mark is an experienced technologist, executive, founder, and private equity investor. He is Founder/Managing Director of West Capital Advisors, a corporate innovation and venture investment advisory firm. Previously, he served as a Managing Director in Draper Triangle Ventures, an early stage venture fund. Mark maintains a relationship with Draper Triangle in the role of Venture Partner.
Mark has been involved in many entrepreneurial ventures. He founded Synchrony Communications in 1997 raising $38 million in funding from leading VCs, including Charles River Ventures, APAX Partners and GE Equity. He grew the company to a size of more than 130 employees in four cities serving over 80 customers, including Cincinnati Bell, Bank of America, and Proctor & Gamble. In prior years Mark served in management roles with a series of venture backed Silicon Valley companies, including Gain Technology (sold to Sybase), Siebel Systems (IPO), and Genesys Telecommunications (IPO). After graduate school he worked in management consulting with Theodore Barry & Associates (Los Angeles). Mark began his career as a software engineer with Cincom Systems (Cincinnati).
Mark founded the Corporate Innovation Institute (Ci2). He is also co-Founder of the Cincinnati Consumer Summit (formerly Omnichannel Marketing and Pervasive Commerce Conference) an invite-only event bringing together leading innovators, investors and corporate executives to review real world case studies and debate the future of consumer engagement.
Mark currently serves as an observer on the boards of OnShift, HubLogix, Amplifinity, Alung and LabelInsight, and is an Advisory Council member for the GreenLight Foundation | Cincinnati.
Mark holds an M.B.A. from The Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University and a BS Systems Analysis from Miami University.
Co-founder and Chairman of the Board
Madeleine is a senior executive with over 30 years experience. She has co-founded a company, served as chief executive of a high growth start up, served as a senior officer of a Fortune 200 company and has vast experience in investment banking. During her career, she has been actively involved in numerous M&A transactions and private placements, serving as principal and as agent. Before co-founding West Capital, Madeleine was Founder and Principal of LudlowWard Capital Partners, serving privately-held middle market companies in a wide variety of financial services. She also served as Chairman and CEO of Cadence Networks, Inc., a venture-backed, energy management company initially launched and funded by three electric utility companies. Prior to joining Cadence, Madeleine was Vice President and Chief Financial officer of Cinergy Corp, a public utility in Cincinnati. She also spent nine years as a Principal in the investment banking department of Morgan Stanley.
Madeleine holds an M.B.A. from The Darden School, University of Virginia and as well as a BA from the University of Virginia. She currently serves on the Board of ALLETE, Inc. (NYSE:ALE) and the Ohio National Fund. She is a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Darden Foundation at the University of Virginia and former member of the Board of Trustees of Cincinnati Country Day School.
Michelle is a finance executive, with over 20 years of broad finance, administration and investment experience. Previously, Michelle served as CFO of TechColumbus, a regional economic development organization focused on the advancement of early stage technology-based start-up companies located in Columbus, Ohio. She was responsible for the financial operations of the organization and served as President & CEO of TechColumbus Investments, Inc., which manages several seed, pre-seed and angel stage investment funds, including the Ohio TechAngel Funds.
Prior to TechColumbus, Michelle served as the Director of Corporate Financial Services at Battelle Memorial Institute where managed a fund of funds venture investment portfolio and direct investment portfolio, mergers & acquisitions, commercialization and intellectual property licensing transactions involving equity for Battelle and the national laboratories it manages. Michelle also launched the Columbus office as Director for Fletcher Spaght Ventures II, an early stage healthcare and technology venture fund, and worked in finance, accounting and shareholder relations for Maxwell Technologies in San Diego, California.
In 2012, Michelle was instrumental in forming Advanced Energy Economy Ohio Institute and Ohio Advanced Energy Economy, a 501(c)3/501(c)6 organization focused on public policy and advocacy for the energy industry, serving as the launch CEO and then as Chief Operating Officer.
Michelle holds a B.S. in Business Administration from California State University, San Marcos and an M.B.A. from The Ohio State University. She is a CPA and a Certified Equity Professional, serves on the board of directors of Employers Resource Association, and as a member of ERA’s board development committee.
Kim is experienced in administrative and organizational efficiency of small businesses. She supports the management of client service and event planning activities for West Capital. Kim also assists the investment team with investment accounting, reporting, and various other activities to ensure West Capital’s success. Kim holds a BS in Marketing from Miami University and is active in the Cincinnati community through many non-profit and athletic organizations, most recently with Boys Hope Girls Hope Cincinnati, Chemo Unity and the Cincinnati Royals Lacrosse Club.
